VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need 30 volunteers to be Proctors or Scorers; neither responsibility requires knowledge of the program or significant effort/time. The students take a series of three tests - Sprint Round, Target Round, and Team. Each testing room requires the presence of two Proctors to hand out, administer and collect the tests. Scorers will be in a separate room to grade the tests after each round (answer key will be provided).  Volunteers are asked to arrive by 8am.

Please contact Kent Kowalske or Amy McLaren, the Peoria Area MATHCOUNTS Coordinators, by February 1st if you are able to volunteer and provide your preference of role or whether you are flexible. Further instructions and details will be provided to volunteers prior to the competition.

MEMBER TOUR OF MORTON'S NEW WATER TREATMENT FACILITY & CHAPTER MEETING

Craig Loudermilk, PE, Director of Public Works for Morton, Illinois was kind enough to arrange for our members to tour Morton's new water treatment facility. The $12 million modifications were made to deal with the excessive ammonia in the Mahomet Aquifer. Pictured with Craig (in yellow) is Trent Reid, Water Treatment Supervisor who conducted the tour and explained the new equipment and monitoring.

Represented from our Chapter was Mike Hoffman of WSP Global. Interesting to note that WSP (used to be Parsons Brinckerhoff) recently purchased Wood Environmental. Farnsworth was well represented by Kevin Hannel, Mike Lutz, Cristin Robertson, Hayden Hoskins, and Edgar Becerra. Also attending was Philip Allyn of the City of Bloomington and our regulars, Andy Shull from Caterpillar, Daniel Gehman with Dewberry, and myself.

Following the tour was a Chapter dinner meeting to which all those on the tour were invited. We discussed the purpose of the Chapter and future objectives which included reaching out to High Schools, Universities, and other specialized groups such as TBII and the Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers; arranging events to attract future students; confirming that our activities could be counted for PDH credit; and partnering with other Chapters for large events.

Please drop me a line at rainson@rainson.com with any ideas you have to add to our objectives.

Engineer's Day 2019

ISPE Peoria Chapter member, Emily Munday, PE of Crawford, Murphy and Tilly reports that her and other volunteer engineers had fun inspiring 100+ future engineers on Engineering Day at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.  The kids built paper bridges and tested how to make them stronger to hold more pennies.  The kids also built marshmallow structures to test on an earthquake table and all this while talking about basic principles and problem solving. Other engineering firms represented were Wood Environmental & Infrastructure Solutions by Michael Hoffman, PE; Maurer-Stutz, Inc. by Daniel Gehman, PE; and also from Crawford Murphy and Tilly were Jeremy Wasilewski, PE and Megan Splittstoesser, PE.
